Player's Story

Staying in the Loop

Jordan is 14, plays midfield for a U-14 competitive team, and is tired of hearing about schedule changes secondhand. Here's how Soccer Dad helps players take ownership of their own soccer life.

The Challenge

Last Tuesday, Jordan walked onto the practice field at 5:30 PM — only to find it empty. The coach had moved practice to 6:00 and sent a message to the parents. Mom got the text, but between work emails and dinner prep, she forgot to mention it. Jordan sat on the bench for thirty minutes wondering where everyone was.

The week before that, Dad drove Jordan to Riverside Park for a Saturday game. Except the game was at Lincoln Fields — the schedule had changed, and Dad was still working off the old PDF from September. They arrived ten minutes into the first half.

And then there was the rescheduled game that Jordan found out about from a teammate at school on Friday afternoon. “Wait, we play tomorrow? I thought it was Sunday.” The update had gone to the parent group chat, and by the time it trickled down to Jordan, half the day was gone.

Players shouldn't need to rely on a game of telephone to know when and where to show up. Jordan decides it's time to be plugged in directly.

Joining the Team

Jordan's coach shares an invite code at the next practice. Jordan grabs their phone, opens Soccer Dad, and enters the code. With a parent signing off on the account creation (required for anyone under 16), Jordan joins the team as a Player role member.

The Player role gives Jordan read access to everything relevant: the full schedule, event details, field locations, and their own stats. Jordan can't edit the roster or change the lineup — that's the coach's job — but they can see everything they need to be prepared and on time.

No more waiting for Mom to forward a text. Jordan is connected directly.

Checking the Schedule

Every Sunday evening, Jordan opens the Schedule tab and scans the week ahead. Practice on Tuesday and Thursday at 5:30. Game on Saturday at 10:00 AM. Each event shows the time, the location, and what to bring.

If something changes — a practice moves to a different field, or a game gets rescheduled — Jordan sees the update as soon as the coach makes it. No waiting for a parent to relay the message. No outdated PDFs. No surprises.

Jordan makes it a habit: check Sunday, be ready for the week. It takes about thirty seconds and saves a lot of confusion.

Getting Directions

Saturday's game is at a field Jordan hasn't played at before. Instead of texting the coach or hoping Dad remembers the address, Jordan taps the game event and sees the MiniMapView showing exactly where the field is.

One more tap opens full directions in Maps. Jordan shows the phone to Dad in the car: “It's this one — Lincoln Fields, take a left after the bridge.” They arrive with time to warm up.

No more wrong fields. No more frantic texts from the parking lot asking which entrance to use. The map is right there in the event.

Marking Availability

Jordan knows they can make Saturday's game but will miss Thursday's practice for a school event. Instead of telling Mom to tell the coach, Jordan opens each event and marks their availability directly: Available for Saturday, Unavailable for Thursday.

The coach sees the update immediately. No phone tag, no forgotten messages, no awkward moment at practice when the coach asks “Where's Jordan?” and nobody knows.

It's a small thing, but it makes Jordan feel like a real part of the team — someone who communicates directly and takes responsibility for their own schedule.

5

Following the Action

Jordan's teammate Alex is on another team in the club that plays at the same time. Jordan wants to check how Alex's game is going — and when their own game is happening, Jordan's family wants to follow along too.

That's where the Live Activity comes in. During a game, the score and recent events show up right on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island. Jordan's grandparents, watching from home, can see that Jordan's team just scored — without opening the app or refreshing a webpage.

It keeps everyone connected to the game in real time, whether they're on the sideline or across town.

Tracking Personal Stats

After Saturday's game, Jordan opens their player stats. One goal, one assist, 48 minutes on the field. The season dashboard shows Jordan's totals building up: 6 goals, 4 assists, and a chart showing minutes played trending upward over the last few weeks.

Jordan notices they played more in the second half than the first — the coach has been giving them bigger roles as the season goes on. That's real data, not a guess. It feels good to see the progress in numbers.

Jordan screenshots the season chart and sends it to Grandpa. “Look, six goals this season!” Grandpa sends back a string of thumbs-up emojis.
